I wish to acknowledge and express my feeling of deep gratitude to my esteemed guide, Dr. S.P. Tiwari, present Dean, College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Anjora, Durg, Advisory member Dr. U.K. Mishra, present Hon’ble vice chancellor, CGKV, Durg and other members, whose austere guidance, valuable and timely suggestions enable me to complete this work. I am also thankful to the other associated professors, my colleagues, friends, students and my family member for their kind cooperation, eternal blessing, forever love and generous affection which brought me up to this stage.
The goat is one of the most important species of livestock in India. It has short generation interval, high prolificacy and is easily adaptable to a wide range of climatic conditions. Goat are reared specially in India as extensive and semi-extensive system of rearing. Goats in the grazing are the most likely species to suffer from a condition of under nutrition due to insufficient supply of nutrients through the forage they graze upon. In the tropics under-nutrition is cited to be one of the major constraints towards efficient animal production. The inadequate mineral supplementation is perhaps a more limiting factor compared to the deficiency of energy and protein in the feeding of goat. I conducted my Ph.D research to study the effects of supplemental mineral (Cr, Zn and Se), un-medicated UMMB and medicated UMMB on growth performance, nutrient utilization, blood biochemical constituents, and hematological and mineral profile of growing, adult and pregnant goats. The Ph.D thesis is converted into book with intention to provide the vast research information to the scientific community of country as well as of world.
I hope this volume will be a valuable reference for researchers, animal health professionals and policy experts, and a useful resource for educators and advanced animal nutrition students.
